Midway’s Arcade Treasures is one of those few titles that bring back the fond memories of the games that were a blast to play ten years or so ago. Due to popular request, Midway has released the sequel to Midway Arcade Treasures. The original, which was released not too long ago, made a big splash and gamers anticipated another release. Midway has not enhanced these vintage games in any way, so if you’re looking for some visual upgrades or enhancements look somewhere else. Midway’s Arcade Treasures is bringing back twenty old school games in their original format and to let gamers reminisce and enjoy good times.

Gameplay:
Many developers have made numerous attempts at releasing past arcade games onto the gaming market. Unfortunately, many didn’t garner the interest of many old school gamers. Namco Museum did happen to bring back some good memories, but the game library was very small. Intellivision Lives offered a large selection of games but suffered from technical problems. Midway Arcade Treasurers seemed to have offered the best mixture of games for games, and the game in fact made a name for itself. This time around, Midway has included some classics along with no name titles that seems to get the job done.

Each game is portrayed as a unique title, and the control scheme reflects upon this. Mostly all of the games have their own simple control layout. Since these games are around a decade in age, their control schemes are limited, so not all of the Xbox game controller will be fully utilized. However, each games control scheme allows you to settle down, get comfortable, and enjoy the game with simple layouts.
Midway Arcade Treasures doesn’t specifically have any real modes of gameplay. Once you start the game up, you’ll be taken through an intro movie and then you’ll be able to select a game to play. It’s the actual games that have their unique modes of gameplay. For example, Rampage World Tour features monsters destroying buildings, towers, and causing as much destruction as possible. Mortal Kombat is a classic fighter that involves plenty of blood, gore, and action. Every single game is unique and individually special and is easily a big reason why the sequel Midway Arcade Treasures is a solid title.
Graphics:
There is nothing you can say about the visuals in Midway Arcade Treasures, because this is a compilation of classic games from years ago. Midway wasn’t going to take the time to enhance each and every game, because that wasn’t the point in the first place. For the most part, the visuals in each and every game get the job done. You can pretty much tell what kind of game that you’re playing and the kind of background/environment you’re viewing. Of course, there are a few games that stand out of some of the others, but there are also some games that really don’t create an effective atmosphere.
Audio:
This is virtually the same story of the visuals in Midway Arcade Treasures. The audio in the games is limitless, but Midway has made sure that all sounds that are featured in games are crisp and easy to hear. You can still see how games have evolved so much over the years in terms of audio. We now have games that feature 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound and games that are supported by THX Certified Sound. The games featured in Midway Arcade Treasures have the occasional thud, crash, or voiceover, but just about what you would expect from a classic title.
Overall:
Midway Arcade Treasures 2 is a solid compilation of classic games that bring back the fond memories of videogames. Many older gamers can find this title a valuable experience, and for only $19.99 USD, you just can’t go wrong with that price. With 20 invigorating and exciting games to choose from, there is just so much to get out of Midway Arcade Treasures 2. This is easily a game to recommend to longtime videogame fans, or anyone that is interested about the videogame past.
