Rainbow Six 3 Review
by 007

The year is 2007, and the world sands on the brink of a terrifying global conflict. As the United States is caught in an embargo induced oil crisis, terrorist attacks against American interest - and citizens - escalate. Venezuela, which still supplies the United States with oil, also becomes a target. As unrest grows in America, protests rock the streets or Caracas. And while the shadow of terror looms, madmen plot even greater acts of murder and destruction. No place is safe, no border secure in this hour of fear...

Before you even start the main campaign, it is best to immediately go to the training area so you can get a good feel for the game. When you do start the game, the initial mission will basically be a training mission where you'll get a feel for the aspects of each level.

Before you head into a mission, your boss John Clark describes the mission situation and overall objectives. From there you'll be able brief the mission, access the rest of your team and their gear, and view and change your mission gear. Always make sure that you're well briefed before you head into a mission.

While in a mission, it's always important to be fully award of your HUD (Heads-Up Display) and be able to react to it when a new situation or event occurs. Your health is displayed just under name (same goes for your teammates). You'll always be equipped with 4 blocks of health. Get in the middle of a heavy crossfire and you'll sustain heavy damage. Also displayed in your HUD will be you ammo, current weapon, mission map, and current team command.

Rainbow Six 3 isn't a "guns a blazing" game where you just charge into areas and shoot at anything that moves. That's basically how you're going to get yourself killed, and quickly for the most part. Stealth is very key as well as utilizing your other members in your unit. Take it easy in missions and always use the all the gadgets in your inventory. Remember, there isn't a time limit for missions, you just have to get the job done and get it done right.

The most innovative part of Rainbow Six 3 is the online aspect where you and fifteen other players can play online. The action online is intense, exciting, and fantastic. It's very rare to get into a game that has lag issues. There's never an issue of finding the right game, because there always more games available than you can handle. Currently, UBI Soft is releasing many downloadable maps for Xbox Live play, and they're coming out at a real fast pace.

Graphics:

Rainbow Six 3 is a game that is mostly played during the night or the late stages of the day. Very rarely will you play a mission or multiplayer level that is during the day where the light is strong. Most missions will be dark and lurky, which is excellent for stealth and moving around without getting noticed. UBI Soft has done a tremendous job with the lighting effects in Rainbow Six 3. Aside from that, the level design is fantastic. All 14 levels are uniquely designed and are all visually spectacular. Character design of the enemies is mediocre at most; there isn't much flair or groundbreaking detail.

Audio:

Tom Clancy games have the history of having good audio and soundtracks. Rainbow Six 3 is no exception with orchestral music taking place in the background throughout the game. There are all the little effects that make a difference; rain, wind, gunfire, shouting, whispering, footsteps on the stairs, etc. Everything has been included to offer a true Tom Clancy experience. The voiceovers have been done very well. Whether it's coming from your teammates or the enemies, it's smooth and nicely flowing.

Overall:

Rainbow Six 3 is yet another true Tom Clancy action experience that has been pushed to the max. Whether you're playing online with your friends and downloading the barricade of new map content that's being released, or enjoying the single player campaign - it doesn't get any better than this. Rainbow Six 3 has a lot to offer gamers, whether it be online, offline, system link, or co-op, there's hours of gameplay waiting. There's no reason why any Xbox gamer shouldn't pick this title up.
