Minority Report Review
by 007

In 2054, you are a pre-crime officer name John Anderton and head of an elite police division that can predict and apprehend murderers before their crime can be committed. Everything sounded good for Anderton, until the system came after him.

It’s now up to you with a challenging 40 levels of non-stop action where your best friends have become your worst enemies. Stop the conspiracy, clear your name from the books before it’s too late and your worst nightmare becomes a reality.

Features:

• Relive the movie experience but with new situations and events
• Enhanced special effects
• Tons of offensive combos
• The black market lets you buy weapons and game upgrades

Gameplay:

Although the game takes many elements and parts from the movie, Tom Cruise himself couldn’t star in the game because Treyarch couldn’t obtain the rights to have Tom Cruise in the game. What does that mean for the game? Nothing seriously bad, but a similar character of John Anderton was made for the game. Other than following the movie completely, the game offers its own twists and turns to the plot to make the game even more unique, but it really doesn’t.

Gamers will get completely confused without any or some knowledge about the movie (Out now on DVD). Since the concept of pre crime is in the game, it could cause a few scratched heads because the entire movie and game goes around it.

Minority Report doesn’t offer a stiff enough challenge, but with 40 levels to go through, it’s oddly enough very short for what it has. The main idea is to find the questions to the answers Anderton has and along the way you’ll have to put up a fight with the enemy that wants to bring you down. Other than fighting, Treyarch made it possible to run from your enemy without putting out a fight. In a sense, this is a smart idea, since the game isn’t about fighting, but about finding answers.

When you’ve got no choice but to fight, you’ll do it surrounded since Anderton is a man on the run and pre crime wants him caught. The fighting system is fairly simple and well designed giving the few buttons you have on your controller endless opportunities to fight your enemy. Anderton will fight pre crime officers and robotic spiders that will electrocute you if you’re not careful.

As for Anderton’s self defense other than kicks and punching combos, he’s got a few weapons along the side. There is a little variety to have, but obtaining a weapon in the game is hard to come by. Besides that, ammunition can be your other enemy since there’s never going to be enough of it so choosing the right targets and good shots will help.

There is also the black market where with cash you can purchase powerups, weapons, and such. Enemy AI is simply something you can laugh at. Enemies will sometimes betray each other or try and fool you by acting like somebody they aren’t.

Graphics:

Minority Report boasts some stunning visuals along with terrible visuals. It ends up in a win/lose situation. The games slows down a lot, which becomes a problem because it seems to happen often for no reason because there’s nothing spectacular happening on screen usually and nothing that would cause a sudden slowdown. Some fighting moments, are well done and weapon effects can be just jaw dropping. Character models look tired, because there not polished the way they should be in other Treyarch titles.

Sound:

Audio in Minority Report just isn’t up to par at all. There’s no real background music. What is there is a monotone sound that never changes or picks up at all during the game. Anderton has very strong vocals in the game, by far the best out of anyone. You’ve got the traditional sound effects from the punches and kicks and bodies hitting the ground. Enemies will let out groans from punches and scream when falling from a building. It’s all here, but very minimal.

Overall:

From the previous Treyarch titles that have been released on the Xbox, this is certainly a big miss for the developer. No doubt, they did a great job with Spider-Man: The Game as they took the movie and made it into a stunning game, although it could use more polish. Minority Report deserves much better. The movie is simply fantastic, and this game license, simply awful. There are some good points of the game, but nothing to make the title worthwhile. I would suggest getting the movie, it’s $30 well spent.
