Full Spectrum Warrior Review
by 007
Terrorist attacks have spread across Europe and Asia, gaining the interests of the United States. Using tactical real-world urban warfare, you'll need to train your light infantry troops and be fully prepared for what's at stake. Combat is intense, and you'll need to use your skills to neutralize the enemy and complete your mission. Direct your squad with the proper command, or be prepared for utter defeat.
Features:
-Tactical Real-World Urban Warfare
-Online Multiplayer
-Downloadable Content
-5.1 Dolby Digital
-480 Progressive Scan Input
-16:9 Widescreen Support
Gameplay:
Full Spectrum Warrior is unlike many war games we've experienced before. The game isn't quite a third person shooter, but more of a real-time strategy. While the game presents different elements and squad perspectives, you'll have to utilize your members and use cover effectively. Strategizing with your team members is key in meeting and succeeding objectives in numerous locations.
The game has you in the control of two squads that you'll take into battle. In order to safely move about in levels, cover will be heavily relied upon. Whether it backing up against a wall, lying next to debris, or hiding behind a vehicle, cover plays one of the biggest roles in the game. It can become the single reason on why you succeed or fail a mission.
As you take control of both squads, you'll have to be laying down the commands to order takedowns, attacks on enemy forces, moving to another location, or clearing a path. Commanding your troops isn't very difficult to do, but it's an important aspect of the game to utilize. Game combat is fairly standard, but you'll notice that you'll be going through quite a bit of ammo in the process.
Game Controls:
Full Spectrum Warrior has quite the control design that sure isn't anything we've seen in a combat game for quite some time. There's plenty of depth in the design, but also plenty of useful features that come in handy. While there's plenty to the design, most of it comes pretty standard - selection a troop, giving commands, firing your weapon, throwing a grenade,ng your GPS, etc. It's pretty much more than you're used to in a combat title.
Xbox Live Impressions:
The Xbox Live compatibility, while offered, seems to be limited. Full Spectrum Warrior offers online co-operative play online, where you and another gamer take on missions against enemy AI. To some, it doesn't seem like much is offered online, but it's quite enjoyable and is a lot of fun. Full Spectrum Warrior will also receive downloadable content, but at this point what gamers will be receiving is unclear.
Graphics:
Without a doubt, Full Spectrum Warrior is one of the best looking combat games as of late. Environments are gorgeously displayed with cloudy, gusty, and bright areas giving leeway to the cities you're in. Many of these cities are old, run down, and seem to be on their last leg. However, the complex design really brings these cities to life. Soldiers are very detailed and have fluid movement, while the framerate rarely has a slowdown. The game supports 480 Progressive Scan Input, so expect some finer and crisper details.
Audio:
Full Spectrum Warrior takes full effect with interesting dialogue, fantastic explosions, and a lovely soundtrack. Much of the voice acting is done exceptionally well, but is also foul-mouthed making this title more appealing for adults. The sound effects come off very well, with gunfire and explosions sounding fantastic. The soundtrack is symphonic music, which offers a peaceful touch. While there's no custom soundtrack support, the game does support Dolby Digital, which can only take your audio experience to another level.
Overall:
Full Spectrum Warrior is a game that has much to be proud of. What Pandemic has created is a solid combat experience with depth, design, and attitude. However, no game is perfect, and Full Spectrum Warrior has its issues. The primary single player mode is pretty much perfected, but the multiplayer could have offered so much more. Combat gamers are going to be giddy with Full Spectrum Warrior, you just can't miss out on a title like this.
