X Factor:                                                                                                            -written by SunsFan

“Signs of the Apocalypse”

The first sign of the upcoming apocalypse and end of the world - Justin Timberlake is dating Janet Jackson. As Kyle’s mom on South Park would say “Wha-Wha-What?” The second sign of the upcoming apocalypse and end of the world - people are now hacking into the Xbox to play Game Boy games. They haven’t stopped there either. People are cranking out Atari 2600 and Sega Genesis emulators to play on the Xbox.

Now, I haven’t seen any of these in action. Rumors are flying all over the internet and on message boards about them working or not working. I honestly don’t know if there’s any merit to the press releases. I’ve done extensive searching on yahoo, google, and excite to find out the root of these claims. The truth is: aside from some websites with Chinese and Japanese characters there’s nothing to support that SMSPlus has been ported over to the Xbox or that GBAX really allows you to play Game Boy Advance games on your Xbox. So do they really exist? Who knows?

If they do exist then I have one question. Why? What’s the point of playing a crappy Game Boy Color or Atari 2600 game on your Xbox? I’ll admit it’s kind of fun to play the original Space Invaders on my PC sometimes using MAME or some other emulator. But honestly, I don’t even like playing games on my friend’s PS2 because the graphics are so crappy compared to the Xbox that it seems like a waste of my time.

I own a Game Boy Advance. I like playing games on it. It’s a cool little portable system if you’re sitting directly under the sun or if you’re on an airplane and can direct that little light directly onto the screen (if not you have to guess what the hell is going on cuz the screen is so friggin’ dark.) BUT there’s a reason that the screen is only a few inches wide. The games are meant to be played on a small screen. Not on a 32” television set via the most powerful gaming system around.

So, my advice to all of the little hackers out there content with playing Donkey Kong, Jr. on their Xbox - make a really cool game using the power of the Xbox. Take that code from DK, Jr. and punched up the graphics, add a weird twist to it. Do something with your creativity to create something new. Not old and tired.
